This project was the light refurbishment of 4 lecture theatres for the University of Warwick. Works included the strip out of the existing floor, repairs to the sub floor followed by replacement flooring, nosing’s and fixtures. Decorations were completed alongside the flooring due to the tight time frames to complete these works.
Works Completed:
Decorations:
Walls & Ceiling: due to the uneven nature of the floor the ceiling was painted using mobile towers with Vinyl Matt. The walls were fully coated with a durable matt to ensure longevity in such a busy place.
Woodwork: a colour change was requested for the red doors to white, this was achieved using several coats of undercoat followed by the top coat. Seat panels were fully coated using flortred to ensure the most durable finish.
Flooring:
when removing the old flooring it was discovered that the latex sub floor had completely blown and where the desk had been removed by another contractor, severe damage was caused to the concrete.
We reacted quickly and repaired the damaged concrete and replaced the latex before changing the flooring and nosing’s throughout.
The main challenge for this project was time. Initially at tender stage we had 1 month to complete all the works but when it came to the pre-start this was revised to 2 weeks due the lecture theatres being booked out.
We rose to the challenge and managed to complete all the decorations to all the lecture theatres 3 days early and the major elements to the flooring. We have a return date in September to complete the remaining flooring in 2 lecture theatres with works expected to last no longer than 2 days.
This project demonstrated our ability to react to unforeseen problems. Within 24 hours we had a solution, costs approved and were carrying out the remedial works to the sub floor to ensure no delays.
